 Welcome by President
Dear Members, Colleagues, and Friends of the ESMRMB,

While still recovering from the shock of Brexit within the UK, it is a pleasure to welcome you to my last Newsletter, serving as ESMRMB president. After two challenging but very exiting and fruitful years leading my favourite society, I will be pleased to hand over my position to my colleague and successor, Rik Achten from Ghent/BE, in October 2016. I will continue serving to the society as past president, and hope to be welcoming you personally at our Annual Scientific Meeting 2016 in Vienna/AT.
Our programme committee, chaired by Roland Kreis, has assembled an amazing programme and we are sure you will enjoy the meeting, no matter whether your background is in medicine, the basic sciences or the technical and engineering fields. This year, for the first time, we introduce a late breaking abstract submission: two new presentation formats, giving you the extraordinary possibility to submit your abstract by August 9! ESMRMB and the Local Organising Committee, chaired by Siegfried Trattnig, are very much looking forward to meeting you in Austria’s beautiful capital Vienna!

I am furthermore happy to report that the educational programmes of the ESMRMB, such as the School of MRI, the Lectures on MR, and the Hands-on MRI courses, continue to be a success story and in 2016 will be complemented for the very first time with an e-Learning basic course in applied MR techniques. In order to benefit from substantial reductions for all ESMRMB activities, don’t forget to pay your annual membership fee now!

And as always, for any update on your society’s newest offers, continue to like us on Facebook (@ESMRMB) and follow us on Twitter (@ESMRMB).

Enjoy the summer, relax and start full of energy for ESMRMB’s greatest activities!

With my kindest regards,

Xavier Golay
ESMRMB President

 Late-Breaking Abstract Submission still Open!
Did you miss the deadline to submit your abstract in April? This is your chance! ESMRMB is introducing two new presentation formats at our Annual Meeting this year:

1. NEWS: Late-breaking results
This format will allow presenters to showcase their latest research and give attendees the possibility to learn about the most up-to-date research progress. We believe that learning about new findings from within the last couple of months will add substantial value to our meeting.

2. VIEWS: Opinion and discussion section
The opinion and discussion section is intended as a space for the discussion of any topical issue. We encourage presenters to lay out their views on any disputed issue, e.g. propositions on changes in radiological practice or MR research.

Contributions to both categories will be presented in the form of traditional posters and you can find more detailed information on both formats as well as the submission process on
our website.

The submission deadline - August 9, 2016 (24:00 CEST) - is approaching quickly, so hurry up and send us your contributions now!

 MR Enterprise Section: Bracco
In an article published on-line in February 2016 in Investigative Radiology, Bruce et al. succinctly demonstrate that the incidence of NSF in patients with severe renal dysfunction (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.72 m2) referred for contrast-enhanced MRI is significantly reduced to 0% (0/1423 patient exams spanning 8 years) if gadobenate dimeglumine is used in combination with referring physician education and an effective inpatient screening protocol.
In confirming the findings of other investigators, Bruce et al. postulate that the lower NSF incidence with gadobenate dimeglumine may be related to the biochemical constants and kinetics that govern an agent's stability in vivo, and to the dual kidney and liver excretion route of gadobenate dimeglumine.

New Strategies for Protocol Optimization
GOBrain is a 5 minute diagnostic brain exam, consisting of five diagnostically-important MR brain protocols acquired with optimized pulse sequences. Integrated with individual anatomical landmark-based AutoAlign technology providing automatic slice positioning, this push-button exam requires minimal interaction from the technologist. The included sequences are a sagittal T1w, axial T2w, axial T2w DarkFluid, axial diffusion-weighted and an axial T2*w contrast.
